Citizens Advice Plymouth Food Support Advice Service

Citizens Advice Plymouth Food Support Advice Service is a new service from Citizens Advice Plymouth aimed to advise and support those in need.

We are working alongside Plymouth food support services to enable them to refer people directly to our service so we can advise and help you.

We advise on a broad range of issues, whether you’re are wondering what your benefit entitlement is or if you are struggling with an employment issue we are here to advise you on any issues that is causing you to seek out help from food agencies.

How does it work?

  • When you access food support, you or the agency can ask if a referral can be made to Citizens Advice Plymouth to provide you with advice about any issues you may be experiencing.
  • If you accept, the food support organisation will take your contact details and a brief summary of the issue or issues and they directly send it confidently and securely to Citizens Advice Plymouth.
  • Once that is done you can expect a call from Citizens Advice Plymouth within 5 working days to explore and assist you further.

Recent Client Case Study

A recent client we helped at Citizens Advice Plymouth Food Support Advice Service had couple of overlapping enquires. Due to recent change of circumstances their accommodation had become unsuitable and overcrowded which had also put them under further financial pressures.

This prompted them to seek assistance from a food provider in Plymouth and through that they made a referral directly to us. Therefore, we explored further into the situation with the client and identified that the client could be entitled to more benefit income than they were currently receiving and more appropriate accommodation.

We informed the client in the process they would need to follow in terms of finding new, more appropriate, housing for them. Since we spoke, the client has successfully updated their Universal Credit with the increase, and in addition used the information from ourselves to go and register on Devon Home Choice to find a new property.

The client stated that they felt much more at ease with things now and that they knew exactly what has happening and what to expect moving forward and that they weren’t so worried about their financial circumstances now with the income increase from Universal Credit.
